“Well
rounded mystery” review by Jane Maritz - Oregon, USA. 4
stars Jan 2010
The
Deadline Murders is the first of "a fox and faraday mystery" series
by Ron Morgans, and I'm looking forward to reading the next!
Henrietta
Fox is a wild gal with no fear when it comes to getting the shots she needs to
make a living as a paparazzo. Definitely street-smart and likable, her
character is well-developed in this first book. Cass Farraday, her partner, is
a bit the opposite, though with just enough intrigue that you kind of want to
like him and hope he ends up not being so stiff-necked after all.

than Agatha Christie!”

I am not
really a big fan of mystery novels.
I find
that a lot of mystery authors kind of move their characters around, try to
surprise us with red herrings or twists in the plot that aren't really twists
as we can see right through them. The other problem mystery novels have is that
they're boring. I just flat out can't read most of them.
There are
a few mystery authors that I do like however: Agatha Christie, Minette Walters,
Mo Hayder. I know that when I see their name on the cover of a book I can
(usually) expect a great read from them.
However:
Ron Morgans blows them all out of the water. Really, he does.
The
Deadline Murders is the freshest and most fun mystery I have read in years.
This is an
absolutely wonderful mystery. If you read one good book this summer, make sure
it's this one. The Deadline Murders is fresh, funny, fast and furious. It hooks
you from page one and doesn't let go.
I can't
wait to read the other books in the series.

feisty and fun.”

...she focuses her camera on an incoming plane and sees it crash in front
of her. It is a Chinese plane built by the Sumxu Aviation Corporation. Henrietta and Cass set off to China to meet the mysterious Mr Zhong, head of the Sumxu
Corporation, who also gives Henrietta a cat as a present. And then, the fun
begins....
This book
has a punchy, fast moving style, rather Grisham like in places, particularly
with the emphasis on what I call 'labels.' Henri shoots with a Nikon, wears
Dolce and Gabbana while Cass drives a Morgan and
that is not an insult in case you are
wondering. The writing is in a tight, no time wasted journalistic speed with
Cass and Henri arriving in China and becoming involved in a deadly chase by men
who want to kill them, taking refuge on a Chinese barge, and getting away by the skin of their teeth. The final scenes in Britain's Air Traffic control
centre with a deadly implanted virus wiping out all the technology and leaving
hundreds of planes in the air, including one containing Her Maj, is very tight
and exciting and very very filmic.
I really
enjoyed this book. Great fun, great read and, as I have said above, pacy and
speedy so that once you start reading you are carried along to the last page.
There are two others in this series, Kill Chase and The Emerald Killers and I
look forward to reading these as well.

hooked!”

I've read
all of Ron Morgans' books now off the back of his first novel and I felt
compelled to write a review. I found his books to be exciting, entertaining and
un-put-downable!!
Henri Fox
is a woman every other woman can't fail to love and men must find exciting and
impossible to read! I warmed to her character immediately despite her hard, tough exterior. The fact
they are linked throughout all three books made me want to continue reading
about them. I want a fourth book now please!! I found them a bit like Mulder
and Scully without the aliens!
There are
various different events that build up to a big ending in each book which kept
me intrigued and unable to put the book down. It really is a fantastic fast
paced read that I found exhilarating and fun. I'm glad I
picked this book.
